Angel Has Fallen Rises To $1.5 Million In Thursday Night Previews

Angel Has Fallen, a franchise that no one expected to become a franchise, launched in Thursday night previews to decent results.

Angel Has Fallen grossed $1.5 million from 7 PM previews yesterday at roughly 2,600 locations. The good news about the preview number is that it’s higher than not only Focus Features’ release of previous Butler films in the series, 2016’s London Has Fallen ($850,000, $7.5 million Friday, $21.6 million opening) and Open Road’s 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen ($550,000 $10 million Friday, $30.3 million), but it’s also higher than the actor’s January 2018 action film Den of Thieves which drew $950,000 in its Thursday previews before ringing up a $5.6 million Friday & a $15.2 million opening.

Despite having a higher preview number than Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen, the new film isn’t expected to come close to the $21.6 million opening of London or the $30.3 million opening of Olympus. As of now, tracking has the film debuting to about $15-16 million and it’s going to be a close call for first place between this film and the second weekend of Good Boys. Angel Has Fallen has a 47% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing but rotten scores haven’t really affected the franchise from doing decent box office (Olympus was 49% rotten while London was 26% rotten).

The second day of Ready or Not scored $1.1 million, down 41% from its debut on Wednesday. That’s honestly not a bad decline and it should rebound as we head into the weekend. Some think it could overperform to $12-15 million but a $10 million weekend seems more likely, depending on word of mouth getting things going. I’ve seen it twice in two days and highly recommend it!
