Almost Family Has So-So Debut On Fox

Another day, another set of lukewarm numbers for series premieres. Fox premiered Almost Family in the post The Masked Singer timeslot and it didn’t do much to retain its audience.

At 9:00 PM, Almost Family premiered with only an 0.8 rating among adults 18-49 with 2.95 million viewers, down almost 4 million viewers and more than one whole point from The Masked Singer’s lead-in numbers at 8:00 PM which hit a 1.9 demo rating and 6.75 million viewers. The Masked Singer led the whole night across at all networks and while the numbers were still good, they were down from its season 2 premiere’s 2.5 rating and 8.02 million viewer audience.

CBS had a mixed bag of a night with Survivor scoring a 1.2 demo rating and 6.50 million viewers. Survivor was down a tenth in the demo but it did tick up in total viewers from last week (6.29 million viewers vs. 6.50 million viewers). The season premieres of SEAL Team (0.7, 5.23 million viewers) and S.W.A.T. (0.6, 4.07 million viewers) followed Survivor, with both shows returning down from their 0.8 averages last season.

ABC had a steady night across the board for its lineup. The Goldbergs (1.0, 4.31 million viewers), Schooled (0.8, 3.39 million viewers), Modern Family (1.1, 4.30 million viewers), and Stumptown (0.7, 3.95 million viewers) all stayed even with their premiere ratings from a week ago, while Single Parents (0.8, 2.92 million viewers) managed to tick up one-tenth. Despite Stumptown falling a tenth from its lead-in within the demo, it still increased in total viewers and it’s in a better spot than the network’s Emergence because it maintained its demo score from a week ago.

NBC also had a relatively steady Wednesday for its Chicago lineup. Both Chicago Med (1.0, 7.55 million viewers) and Chicago Fire (1.1, 7.57 million viewers) matched their premiere ratings, while Chicago P.D. (1.0, 6 million viewers) slipped just one-tenth week-to-week.

Wednesday ratings this week still show Fox has a clear winner with The Masked Singer, despite the drop but the soft debut of Almost Family is bound to be a concern. ABC’s steady performance on the night shows its Wednesday lineup is good for now and it’s encouraging that Stumptown matched its demo score from last week. NBC is also continuing to score a win with its Chicago Wednesdays while CBS might be a little concerned with the two tenth drop of both SEAL Team and S.W.A.T.
