ABC Renews 13 Series For The 2020-21 Season

It’s ABC’s turn to brighten the day of its television fans while crushing their souls as well. The network announced its renewals and cancellations today and we’re beginning with the good news.

The network handed out renewals to 13 of its shows including freshmen Stumptown & Mixed-ish along with veteran scripted series black-ish, American Housewife, The Conners, The Goldbergs, A Million Little Things & The Rookie. They have also renewed their reality key players The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars & Shark Tank as well as the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire revival and newsmagazine 20/20. These shows join already renewed series’ Grey’s Anatomy, Station 19, The Good Doctor, American Idol, & America’s Funniest Home Videos.

ABC, which is expected to unveil its 2020-21 schedule next month, is the latest broadcaster to make a significant number of renewals in light of the COVID-19 production shutdown. They’re officially going with two pilots for next second that will be explored in another post while other pilots remain in contention once productions can get back to work so the network can see their pilots once completed.

A lot of the renewals aren’t all that surprising. The Conners, whose cast signed on for another season in April, and The Goldbergs are two of the top four broadcast comedies, while The Bachelor is a top-five entertainment series for the season in adults 18-49. Three of the other new renewals, The Bachelor, The Rookie, and A Million Little Things, consistently top ten million total viewers after 35 days of delayed viewing on linear and digital platforms.
