The A Quiet Place universe is ready to expand. It has been announced that John Krasinski has come up with a new idea for a spinoff to A Quiet Place. The actor, director & writer will be involved as a producer while Jeff Nichols will take on directing and writing duties.
Paramount Pictures has set a 2022 release date for the film and plot details are being a bit secret at the moment. The speculation is that this will not be a straight sequel but rather broadened the world that the original introduced, plopping viewers in a post-apocalyptic world where survivors are struggling to stay alive by being quiet, as monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing hunt them. There is plenty of room for the creative team to broaden and explore the world the film is set in and maybe further explain how they all got there in the first place.
Jeff Nichols is known for his films Midnight Special, Take Shelter, Mud, and Loving (which got an Oscar nomination for co-star Ruth Negga). These ideas were from original scripts that he wrote and the studio is confident in his abilities. Nichols developed a relationship with Paramount Motion Picture Group President Emma Watts as they developed a multi-film adaptation of the film Alien Nation, which stalled when Disney acquired Fox.
A Quiet Place was set in a post-apocalyptic world in which creatures with heightened hearing used sound to devour humankind. The movie followed a family trying their best to stay silent and stay alive. The picture proved to be a cultural phenomenon with both critics and audiences, scaring up over $340 million worldwide on a budget of less than $20 million, and nabbing an Oscar nomination for best sound editing. The sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, was scheduled to open March 20, 2020, but the release was postponed several times due to theater closures and coronavirus lockdowns. It is now scheduled for release now on April 23, 2021.
