A Quiet Place Reclaims Top Spot At The Box Office

This weekend was the calm before the storm called Avengers: Infinity War is unleashed upon us but there were a few surprises this weekend to keep the box office interesting.

After taking second last weekend, A Quiet Place is back on top with an estimated $22 million. The domestic total has now hit $132.4 million on a $17 million budget and it did so in 17 days. For comparison’s sake, Split & The Conjuring finished with $138.2 million & $137.4 million over the course of their entire domestic runs. The film is also Paramount’s highest grossing domestic release since Star Trek Beyond in 2016.

Dropping to second is Rampage with an estimated $21 million. The film dropped 41% which isn’t terrible but it’s not great either considering Avengers: Infinity War is likely to get a lot of its screens next weekend and its audience is definitely shifting focus over to that little Marvel movie next weekend. The film has grossed $66 million domestically but it’s killing it overseas where it picked up $57 million over the weekend. It has now grossed $283 million worldwide and The Rock is honestly the driving force behind that.

Finishing in third and slightly above expectations is I Feel Pretty with $16.2 million. This is below the openings for the last two Amy Schumer films but it does show her name does put butts in the seats, at least on opening weekend. It’ll be interesting to see how it holds next weekend against Infinity War because it could be solid counterprogramming for audiences that aren’t in the mood to see superheroes on the big screen.

Opening in fourth and blowing past expectations is Super Troopers 2 with an estimated $14.7 million. The film was tracking at $6 million and it eclipsed that on opening night with $7.9 million. The film did get the 4/20 rush and is extremely front loaded but the fact that it’s a few million shy of the original’s $18.5 million total gross during its opening weekend has to be considered a success.

Rounding out the top five is Truth or Dare with an estimated $7.9 million. It had the typical horror drop of 58% but the film was a hit after its opening night last week due to its $3.5 million budget. The film has grossed $30.3 million to date and Blumhouse is certainly happy with the return on investment.
