A Quiet Place: Part II becomes the latest film casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. It has been announced that the horror sequel will postpone its upcoming release to avoid the disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
The decision to move dates was revealed to UK exhibitors this morning and with so many theaters closing down amid the crisis, it was decided that the international rollout for the film would be severely impacted as a result. As of now, a new date for the European release has not been announced.
A Quiet Place: Part II was set to begin its rollout March 18 in international territories, with the UK release on March 19 and domestic release on March 20. Per “Deadline”, Paramount Pictures hosted a conference call at 8 am Pacific Time to determine the strategy for the release as a whole and it was then decided to delay the domestic release as well. John Krasinski seemingly confirmed the news via this post on his official Instagram page:
Directed by John Krasinski, the film is a follow up to 2018’s A Quiet Place where he also co-starred alongside his wife, Emily Blunt. That film grossed $340 million worldwide so the $153 million from international territories was significant. No new date has been announced for the worldwide launch as of now as the 11th-hour change probably has the studio scrambling to find the right date to release the film. Studios are definitely looking at the bottom line when it comes to their worldwide footprint. The Peter Rabbit sequel recently shifted its release date by 5 months due to the concerns over the coronavirus & MGM’s Bond sequel No Time To Die was the first film to make this move by moving off its original date by 7 months.
