Doug Liman has found a home for his heist movie/romantic comedy Lockdown and it has been acquired in a major worldwide rights deal by Warner Bros Pictures. The intention is to have the picture premiere in early 2021 as an HBO Max Original.
The project stars Anne Hathaway, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Ben Stiller and it’s even more proof that WarnerMedia is trying to drive more subscribers towards their streaming service HBO Max by developing high profile content with big-name stars. In addition to the three leads, Stephen Merchant, Lucy Boynton, Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling, and Dule Hill also star. Steven Knight is on board to handle screenwriting duties.
Lockdown is a modestly budgeted film that found a way to shoot in London during a time when film production is a dangerous and expensive endeavor. Be that as it may, Liman plans to use the world’s real-life lockdown circumstances to the film’s advantage, as the plot and caper will be framed around the globe’s own lockdowns during a pandemic. If these circumstances can inspire some fun films with a great cast, go for it. Doug Liman is a solid director of this kind of popcorn entertainment and you really can’t go wrong with this ensemble cast.
