Zendaya To Play Ronnie Spector In A24 Biopic

Fresh off of Zendaya’s surprising Emmy Award win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work on Euphoria, Deadline has first reported that the actress is slated to play singer Ronnie Spector in a biopic. The film will be released via A24 and New Regency, the film will be based on “Be My Baby,” the book Spector wrote with Vince Waldron.

Ronnie Spector was the lead singer of The Ronettes, one of the most popular groups of the 1960s. Signed by Phil Spector, Spector would later marry which leads to years of psychological torment and even threats of murder.

After their split, Ronnie took Phil to court and later won a court battle against Phil Spector regarding unpaid royalties for the music of The Ronettes.

Deadline also confirmed that Ronnie Spector personally signed off on Zendaya playing her in the film so the seal of approval should add to the excitement to the casting and film.
