WWE Smackdown Leads Friday Programming Once Again Despite Week Two Tumble

WWE Smackdown emerged as the leader of Friday night programming once again for Fox but it took a bit of a hit in its second outing.

On Fox, WWE Friday Night Smackdown topped the night in the 18-49 demo for the second week in a row, despite falling notably from the 1.4 its premiere scored last week to a 1.0 demo rating with 2.9 million viewers this time around. That’s still solid as it’s cheaper to produce than scripted programming but Fox likely expected a better hold.

On CBS, Hawaii Five-O (0.7, 7.09 million viewers) Magnum P.I. (0.6, 6.43 million viewers) & Blue Bloods (0.6, 7.64 million viewers) all matched their ratings from a week ago. Blue Bloods scored the night’s biggest total viewer count with 7.64 million viewers tuning in.

On The CW, Charmed made its Friday night debut, with its season 2 premiere pulling in a 0.2 demo rating and 696,000 viewers, steady with its season 1 finale, but predictably down from its overall 2018-19 averages when it aired on Sunday nights. The season 3 premiere of Dynasty followed it with a 0.1 demo score and 464,000 viewers, similarly down just a small tick from its performance last season.

On ABC, American Housewife stayed even with another 0.5 demo score and 3.36 million viewers, but it was a less steady night for Fresh Off the Boat (0.3, 2.24 million viewers), which fell another tenth week-to-week.

On NBC, The Blacklist grabbed the same 0.5 demo rating and 3.78 million viewers as its season premiere a week ago.

Recapping the Friday ratings, WWE Smackdown is still in good shape but it is a steeper demo fall than I expected. CBS is still steady as a rock on Friday nights while The CW saw decent showings from its Friday night premieres.
