Wonder Woman 1984 Could Shift Its Release Date Again According To Exhibitors

Even though moviegoing seems to look like it’s going back to normal with movies like Unhinged, The New Mutants & Tenet being released, major markets such as Los Angeles, New York & San Francisco still haven’t approved their theaters to reopen & this very fact could lead to Wonder Woman 1984 shifting off its release date yet again.

According to “Deadline”, exhibitors are saying that Warner Bros. is keen to move Wonder Woman 1984 again, this time out of its current October 2 date to either sometime in November or possibly to late December. If late December is the case, that would push Dune, whose trailer made a splash yesterday online, out of its December 18 weekend to sometime in 2021. Another reason Wonder Woman 1984 could move is because of another Warner Bros. release, Tenet. “Deadline” sources are currently estimating that New York and Los Angeles won’t open movie theaters until early October/late September & the Christopher Nolan movie will still need to make a big splash in those markets, or at least make its best effort. Having Wonder Woman 1984 in Tenet‘s way won’t help its domestic bottom line.

Even though Wonder Woman 1984 could move, exhibitors reportedly have suspected this could be the case & aren’t too upset about it as long as it doesn’t go on-demand and skips theaters, but that likely won’t be the case. For theaters that are currently open, it does present a bit of a headache because there aren’t any major releases for awhile. If other studios want to fill the October space if Wonder Woman does move, they’d have to move quickly. If Wonder Woman goes to November, it competes with Marvel’s Black Widow but rumor has it that could be on the move too.

Just the box office life in 2020. Nothing is set in stone.
