At long last! WarnerMedia has finally struck a deal to bring HBO Max to your Roku devices. The streaming service will become available on Roku devices today, December 17, just in time for the debut of Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas day.
Scott Rosenberg, senior VP platform business at Roku had this to say about the deal:
“We believe that all entertainment will be streamed and we are thrilled to partner with HBO Max to bring their incredible library of iconic entertainment brands and blockbuster slate of direct to streaming theatrical releases to the Roku households with more than 100 million people that have made Roku the No. 1 TV streaming platform in America. Reaching mutually beneficial agreements where Roku grows together with our partners is how we deliver an exceptional user experience at an incredible value for consumers and we are excited by the opportunity to deepen our longstanding relationship with the team at WarnerMedia.”
When HBO Max launched on May 27, it did so without distribution deals with Roku and Amazon. That meant that the streamer was not available to some 70 percent of connected-TV users in the United States. WarnerMedia just recently made the deal with Amazon and now Roku completes the union. HBO Max now puts itself in a strong position to get even more subscribers as they prepare to release 17 films from Warner Bros. release slate throughout 2021.
