Adam Sandler gets serious on us in the first trailer for Uncut Gems and some are saying he should be very much involved in the Oscar conversation this season.
Adam Sandler has been making a living on Netflix films that have been critically poor received but very successful on the streamer. The actor and comedian is switching things up a bit with Uncut Gems which comes from A24. The film debuted at Telluride and the Toronto International Film Festival where it began garnering Oscar buzz for Sandler’s performance.
In the film, we follow Sandler’s Howard Ratner, a dealer in New York City’s diamond district. Howard is used to having money, and he’s used to enjoying money. However, things go astray for Howard and he ends up in debt to some pretty serious people which leads to his life completely unraveling.
Uncut Gems comes from the directing duo the Safdie Brothers, who pulled a great performance out of Robert Pattinson in Good Time, which was also very well-received.
