Top Gun: Maverick Moves To 2020

We’ll have to wait a bit longer to feel that need for speed. It has been announced that Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, has been moved to 2020.

The film is being delayed one year by moving its release date to June 26, 2020. The original release had it opening next summer on July 12, 2019. The extra time will give filmmakers the opportunity to work out the logistics of presenting flight sequences with new technology and planes, according to a Paramount statement.

The news comes one week after it was announced that Ed Harris, Jon Hamm & Lewis Pullman joined the cast in unspecified roles. Tom Cruise is due to reprise his role as hotshot pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell., now a flight instructor overseeing a diverse cast of pilots, including the first woman pilot (played by Monica Barbaro).

Miles Teller is also part of the cast as one of the new pilots — the son of Maverick’s deceased Radar Intercept Officer Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards). Rounding out more cast members includes Val Kilmer, reprising his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, Jennifer Connelly & Glen Powell.
