The Many Saints of Newark Shifts Release Date To Fall 2021

Another film delay has been announced but, according to the studio, this one is not pandemic related (thank God).

The Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark, is moving off its March 12, 2021, release date to September 24, 2021. According to “Deadline”, this move is not COVID-19 related & has more to do with the film being positioned during a time of year when it could be considered for the 2021-22 awards season. The fact that movie theaters should be mostly open by then is a bonus but it’s not the determining factor here. The Many Saints of Newark is a WarnerMedia film so it is under that HBO Max & simultaneous theatrical release strategy & it’s honestly the perfect film for the plan since it could play very well at home.

The Many Saints of Newark is directed by Alan Taylor and features a script by Sopranos creator David Chase & Lawrence Konner. Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini who once led the critically acclaimed HBO series, plays the younger version of Tony Soprano in a bit of spot-on & full circle casting. The film also stars Alessandro Nivola, Billy Magnussen, Corey Stoll, John Magaro, Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Michaela De Rossi, Ray Liotta, and Vera Farmiga.
