The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Beats A Quiet Place Part II With $24M Opening

The theatrical experience is back!

With last week’s successful opening for A Quiet Place Part II, New Line, and Warner Bros. were next up to bat with the release of  The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It , and to the surprise of no one, the film continued the moviegoing recovery over the weekend with a $24 million domestic debut from 3,102 theaters, enough to take the crown away from A Quiet Place Part II and place No. 1.

The film’s performance is more impressive based on the fact that it is also available at no extra charge to HBO Max customers. Overseas, the film took in $26.8 million from 45 markets over the weekend for a global total of $57.2 million.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It had a $40 million production budget also boasted the advantage of stealing away Imax and Premium Large Format screens from A Quiet Place Part II which aided the film taking the top spot. The Devil Made Me Do It is the third Conjuring film, and the seventh film in the franchise, which also includes the Annabelle and The Nun spinoff movies. In this latest installment,

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, wrestling once again with demonic possession and satanic curses.

Conjuring beat the opening of the last Annabelle film, which debuted to $20 million in summer 2019, although the two previous Conjuring movies came in above $40 million.
