It was no surprise that the Matt Reeve’s directed The Batman would take the number 1 spot at the box office. The question was how much the film would gross. That question has been answered as The Batman debuts to the second-best opening of the pandemic era behind Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s also director Matt Reeves’ biggest opening to date, and is only the second picture since December 2019 to cross $100 million in its launch.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms the film opened to 248.5 million world wide, with 128.5 domestic and 120 million world wide. What’s impressive about the gross is the films length. The film runs nearly three hours and wasn’t a known quantity, as well as being on the darker side. It’s safe to say the film is slated to launch a new Batman franchise for Warner Bros. and DC.
