Eight years since it was announced, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is finally set to open!
After a sneak peek was offered to The Hollywood Reporter on Friday, it was revealed by Tom Hanks, a museum trustee and co-chair of the Academy Museum campaign, On Sunday during The Academy Awards that the museum will open on December 14th, 2020. Hanks stated,
“There is plenty of culture to be found in the City of Angels,” he said, noting that Los Angeles even had a selfie museum, “but there has never been a museum dedicated to the art and science of motion pictures” — until this upcoming winter.
Along with Hanks, Museum director Bill Kramer stated,
“We cannot wait to welcome the whole world to the Academy Museum. When our doors open on Dec. 14, our thrilling combination of exhibitions, screenings, and public and educational programs will create unparalleled experiences for movie lovers everywhere,”
The Academy Museum is sure to be a stop for all cinephiles anytime they are in La La Land.
