The 100 Prequel Series Gets Pilot Order At The CW

Rumors of a prequel series to the hit CW show The 100 have circulated for quite some time now and with The 100 headed into its final season, those rumors are starting to become a reality. It has been announced that The CW has given a pilot order to a prequel series to The 100 that is set to premiere as a backdoor pilot during the upcoming final season.

100 developer/executive producer/showrunner Jason Rothenberg is the creative mind behind the project and the prequel will be set 97 years before the events of the original series. It starts with the end of the world, a nuclear apocalypse that wipes out most of the human population on Earth, and follows a band of survivors on the ground as they learn to cope in a dangerous world while fighting to create a new and better society from the ashes of what came before.

Talk of a prequel has been going around for a couple of years now. Rothenberg revealed plans to write a prequel novel for Alloy, the publisher of The 100 YA book series by Kass Morgan that became the basis for the CW drama, back in 2016. It is being reported that the script for the prequel was finished over the summer.

The 100 has been a critical and fan favorite for The CW since it began. The series follows a group of post-apocalyptic survivors, largely a group of criminal adolescents. They are among the first people from a space habitat, the Ark, to return to Earth after a devastating nuclear apocalypse.

The seventh and final season of The 100 is set to premiere in 2020 with 16 episodes.
