Stephen Amell Lands Post Arrow Role Headlining A New Wrestling Series On Starz

Stephen Amell is wasting no time landing his next TV gig. With Arrow set to air its final season, Amell has signed on to star in Heels, an hourlong drama set in the world of independent professional wrestling.

Starz had been eyeing to give the series an eight-episode series order but it wasn’t made official until Amell signed on. The show, written by Michael Waldron, is about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals — one of them played by Amell — war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell).

Amell has headlined The CW’s Arrow playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow for eight seasons. The actor has made it a point to connect with his fans and is probably a big reason why the Arrowverse took off the way it did. If not for the success of Arrow, we wouldn’t have The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow or Supergirl. Amell agreed to a shortened eighth and final season, making the decision because he felt the need to move on and try something new. He’s also no stranger to the world of wrestling, having made appearances on the WWE.
