Spider-Man: Far From Home is continuing to spin its web at the box office and the results have been encouraging for Marvel and Sony.
Spidey scored $27 million on Wednesday and with that, it gets the biggest hump day gross for any title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and one of the best non-opening grosses ever for any film. Avengers: Endgame was originally the hump day record holder with a first Wednesday of $25.2 million. The two-day domestic gross is now at $66.3 million which is actually ahead of most box office expectations.
With how it’s performing ahead of Independence Day today, box office experts think it could push ahead of original estimates of $150 million in six days to $175 million in six days. Sony is being conservative and predicting $125 million in six days but the way it’s already performing, it should surge far ahead of that prediction.
Midsommar continued to perform decently with a gross of $3 million on its first full day of release. The film cost under $10 million to make so it’s in pretty good shape so far but, much like Ari Aster’s last film Hereditary, the film is very polarizing with moviegoers with some loving it and others hating it. Have to give props to A24 for releasing films that challenge expectations. It looks like the film will see about $13-14 million in six days.
