Sony’s Stage 6 Films Working On Sequel To Searching

Sony’s Stage 6 Films is working on a sequel to their sleeper hit, Searching. The first film detailed a father’s desperate search for his missing daughter.

Searching was a Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions bought for $5 million in a World rights deal. After a splash at Sundance, Searching was released to great reviews and solid box office, grossing $75 million worldwide.

Sony’s Stage 6 Films is looking for a new cast and plot for the sequel but the original creative team has been engaged to return and figure all that out. The first film was directed by Aneesh Chaganty and starred John Cho and Debra Messing.

Chaganty also wrote the script for the missing person thriller and it marked his feature directorial debut. Chaganty was 25 at the time and got a directing shot after his two-minute short film, a Google Glass spot called Seeds, got over 1 million YouTube views in 24 hours.
