Shannen Doherty To Appear In Riverdale Tribute Episode For Luke Perry

Riverdale is bringing in old fried to pay tribute to Luke Perry, who tragically passed away earlier this year due to complications from a stroke. Shannen Doherty, who co-starred for four seasons on Beverly Hills, 90210 with Perry, will appear in a tribute episode dedicated to the late star.

The news was announced during Riverdale’s Hall H panel on Sunday at San Diego Comic-Con by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. The episode is titled “In Memoriam” and it will reflect on Perry’s legacy and the imprint his Riverdale character, Fred Andrews, had on the show. The episode will also serve as the season four premiere on October 9.

Aguirre-Sacasa said Perry had been advocating for Doherty to appear on Riverdale since season one. “They were such good friends, and when we were putting together this tribute episode, we wanted to make it as special as possible, and so we asked Shannen to do a pivotal, super-emotional role. She read the script and immediately said yes. It’s very impactful.”

After the news was announced, Doherty posted a throwback image on Instagram of Perry and herself with a caption acknowledging how honored she was to pay tribute to her friend:
