Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings Looking To Resume Production In Australia By The End Of July

As Australia has set safety protocols for productions to resume work after the COVID-19 halt, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is eyeing a return to set by the end of July. The film will be heading back to Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia once everything is in order.

The film is prep now for the return and Marvel is taking “careful steps” so they’re 100% ready to get going once they return. The movie began filming back in February before shutting down in March. The film is expected to kick off next summer’s box office on May 7, 2021, pending any crazy release date changes that seem to spring up almost every week in this new COVID-19 dominated world.

Shang-Chi will be the second movie from Walt Disney Studios that is resuming following 20th Century Studios’ Avatar 2 which got back to work last month in New Zealand. These particular overseas territories have been way ahead of the curve in terms of getting back to some normalcy after dealing with the pandemic. The cast and crew of Shang-Chi who travel to Australia will be quarantined upon arrival per the country’s guidance. Accommodations for those in quarantine are identified by the government. When production shut down in March, the film nearly had a personal encounter with the virus as director Destin Daniel Cretton self-isolated himself after consulting a doctor and being tested for COVID-19. The director took extra precautions given his newborn baby. Thankfully, Cretton tested negative for the virus.

Shang-Chi stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung and follows the son of a China-based globalist who raised and educated his progeny in his reclusive China compound, closed off to the outside world. The son is trained in the martial arts and develops unsurpassed skills. He is eventually introduced to the outside world to do his father’s bidding and then has to come to grips with the fact his revered father might not be the humanitarian he has claimed to be.
