Universal Pictures has resumed talks with director Antoine Fuqua to take on the reboot of Scarface. The talks are in the early stages but they are said to be going very well for him to take on the project.
The new film borrows the immigrant rags-to-riches story but presents it in contemporary Los Angeles. The most recent script is by David Ayer, Jonathan Herman and Joel and Ethan Coen. Diego Luna had long been attached to star but that might be in question now due to scheduling conflicts. The film was originally dated for August of this year but is now undated as the studio gets all the pieces in place.
Fuqua had been the director when this third iteration of the picture first got off the ground, but exited when his schedule got too packed. David Ayer then stepped in as a potential director but his schedule also became too tight. Talks with Fuqua and Universal resumed again after the studio looked back at his past work & felt he was the best fit for the project.
If talks continue to run smoothly, Fuqua would take this on after finishing post production on The Equalizer 2.
