Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning To TV In The Limited Series Sometimes I Lie

Sarah Michelle Gellar has chosen the project that will mark her much-anticipated return to TV. Gellar will star in and executive produce a limited series based on the book, “Sometimes I Lie”. The series is being developed by Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production and Warner Bros TV.

In Sometimes I Lie, Gellar stars as Amber Reynolds, a woman who wakes up in a hospital, unable to move, speak or open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they don’t know she can. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. The timeline alternates between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago.

Sometimes I Lie is based on former BBC journalist Alice Feeney’s debut novel, which was an international best-seller. The limited series will be written by Oscar-nominated writer Robin Swicord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

The series marks a rare, but highly anticipated return to television for Sarah Michelle Gellar. The actress, who starred as Buffy on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for 7 seasons, is heavily sought after during pilot season but has been picky about her projects. Gellar has done two series since Buffy ended: the CW’s Ringer and CBS’ The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams. Gellar also reprised her role from Cruel Intentions for a pilot on NBC and although the network liked the pilot, it was ultimately not picked up. Sometimes I Lie has yet to find a network home which means that Gellar’s TV return is not a sure thing just yet but there seems to be huge buzz behind the project.
