Run Becomes Hulu’s Most-Watched Film Ever In Its Opening Weekend

Hulu should be very proud of its acquisition of the movie Run, starring Sarah Paulson. The film, originally intended to be a theatrical release before the global pandemic had other ideas, is now the most-watched movie ever on the streamer in its opening weekend.

Through the film’s first three-days, which began on November 20, Run has beat not only previously watched Hulu Originals Films but licensed SVOD film titles as well. Hulu/NEON’s Sundance acquisition Palms Springs previously held the opening weekend record. Like all of the streamers, Hulu doesn’t divulge their official numbers so we will have to take their word for it. Hulu grabbed the domestic rights to Run from Lionsgate back in August. Directed by Aneesh Chaganty, Run was originally scheduled to be released in theaters over Mother’s Day weekend before COVID-19 hit.

The movie about an isolated teen who discovers her mother’s sinister secret has registered an impressive 93% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is also the No. 1 most-talked about Hulu Original Film on Twitter to date during its opening weekend. One might argue that Hulu didn’t have a lot of huge films to speak of before this but it’s still an impressive feat in the ever-growing streaming wars where all of the entities are seeking bragging rights.
