Rogue One Starts 2017 At Number One

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story dominated New Years weekend as it continued to be the top choice for moviegoers during the holiday season. Rogue One brought in an estimated $49.5 million over three days and $64.3 million over the four day weekend. The brings its domestic total to a massive $439.7 million and nearly $790 million worldwide. As of now it is the thirteenth highest grossing film of all time and shows that the Star Wars brand is as strong as ever.

Sing continued to do well with an estimated $42.8 million over three days and $56.4 million over the four day weekend. Its domestic total now stands at $180 million and $280 million worldwide. It’s clearly hitting the right note with family audiences.

Passengers looked a bit better in third this week with $16.1 million over three days and $20.7 million over the four day weekend. It’s a bit of an increase from last weekend but this is the last “big” weekend it’s going to have since the holiday is over so its $66 million domestic gross so far is still a tad low when compared to its $110 million budget. It has made $125 million worldwide and has more places to open overseas so all eyes will be on its international performance moving ahead.
