Rey’s Lineage In The Star Wars Franchise Undone By The Last Jedi According to Simon Pegg

A lot was made of Rey’s lineage in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Where does she come from? Who are her parents? Why was she gifted with The Force? Fans speculated about this up until the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi where it was revealed that Rey’s parents were no one important. No big reveals were to be made and many fans who had theories about this were left disappointed. Well, according to Simon Pegg, who was in The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams actually had plans for Rey’s lineage and it looks like those plans were undone by the reveal in The Last Jedi.

Here is what Simon Pegg said on “Happy Sad Confused” podcast:

“Well I know what J.J. kind of intended, or at least what was sort of being chucked around. I think that’s kind of been undone slightly by [‘The Last Jedi’]. I don’t know. I don’t know (laughs). There was some talk about, you know, a kind of relevant lineage for her. But I honestly don’t know, and I don’t know if anybody knows. We shall see.”

Abrams is now on board to direct the next installment in the Star Wars franchise after Colin Trevorrow was relieved of his duties on the project. Will Abrams tackle the lineage issue even though The Last Jedi kind of shut that down? Only time will tell!
