Reel TV Ratings: (Thursday) – Supernatural Season Premiere Steady Year to Year

In a night that saw a few more dips, one of the longest running dramas on television premiered as steady as ever while another was steady as a rock in week 3.

Supernatural began its 13th season with a 0.7 demo rating in the 18-49 and 2.10 million viewers on The CW, off a tenth of a point from last season’s debut but a little ahead of its 2016-17 average. That’s a very impressive showing for a show going 13 seasons strong. Also showing similar staying power is Grey’s Anatomy, in its 14th season. The series was the top non-sports show in primetime with a 2.0 demo rating and 7.19 million viewers, even with last week’s preliminary number (it actually adjusted up to a 2.1 demo score in the finals).

How to Get Away with Murder (1.0, 3.86 million viewers) ticked up a tenth vs. last week for ABC, but Scandal fell two tenths from its premiere to 1.2 demo rating and 5.05 million viewers. Arrow’s premiere scored a 0.6 demo rating and 1.57 million viewers for The CW, down from the 0.7 for last fall’s debut but in line with its average last season.

At NBC, The Good Place (1.2, 3.98 million viewers) and Great News (1.0, 4.28 million viewers) were even with last week, but Superstore (1.1, 4.28 million viewers -0.1), Will & Grace (1.7, 6.59 million viewers -0.3) and Chicago Fire (1.1, 6.01 million viewers -0.1) were down. The Orville (1.0, 3.38 million viewers) rose a tenth for FOX, but Gotham slid a tenth to a 0.8 demo rating & 2.69 million viewers.

Thursday proved to be decent for The CW but can the other networks recover from their dips? Find out next Friday during the Thursday rating recap!
