Reel TV Ratings: (Monday) – The Gifted Has Decent Start For Fox While The Good Doctor Still Strong In Week 2

Fox premiered its highly anticipated Marvel series, The Gifted, and the show is off to a decent start for the network.

The series put up pretty good ratings for its premiere Monday night, even if they weren’t all that earth shattering. The Marvel-produced, X-Men-adjacent series drew a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.85 million viewers . That’s an improvement on the 1.3 for Lucifer’s premiere in the time period last year. Lucifer slid back to 8 p.m. and scored a 1.1 demo score and 3.88 million viewers, a tenth of a point above its 2016-17 average. It’s a good night for Fox as Lucifer was steady in a new timeslot and The Gifted actually improved upon its lead-in.

ABC’s The Good Doctor held very well in its second week. It’s currently at a 2.4 demo rating and 11.49 million viewers, and while that will come down in the finals after factoring out a pair of Monday Night Football pre-emptions, it should still end up in the 1.9-2.2 demo range which is great news for ABC as that timeslot has struggled immensely over the years.

CBS’ lineup took a sizable hit in week 2. The Big Bang Theory (3.0 demo score, 13.66 million viewers) was the night’s No. 1 show but is off 27 percent from the 4.1 for last week’s premiere. Me, Myself & I (1.0 demo rating, 5.20 million viewers) dipped 37.5 percent, and Kevin Can Wait (1.4 demo score, 6.77 million viewers) fell by 39 percent. Behind Big Bang, new comedy 9JKL debuted to a 1.6 rating and 8.31 million viewers, more than a point below the week 2 rating for Kevin Can Wait in the same spot last year. Scorpion slipped a tenth of a point to 0.9 demo score and 5.25 million viewers.

On NBC, The Brave (1.2 demo rating, 5.36 million viewers) is off 0.1 vs. last week’s final rating which actually isn’t a bad hold for the military drama and could stick around if it maintains these numbers.

Will The Gifted hold in week 2? Can CBS rebound from their stumble? Check back next Tuesday for the Monday ratings recap!
