Pennywise Revealed for Andy Muschietti’s It Adaptation

Last week, we gave you a sneak peek into the start of production on the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s  It. Directed by Andy Muschietti, part 1 of the adaptation will hit theaters on September 8, 2017 and focus, much like the book, on “The Losers’ Club”, the young kids and social misfits who meet and form a tight-knit friendship in the beginning of King’s novel. The second part of the film will hit theaters in 2018 and feature the kids as adults battling Pennywise once again.

We now have our first look at Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard), the demon who poses as a child-killing clown who torments the misfits, and he’s even more terrifying than Tim Curry’s version in the 1990’s miniseries.

Skarsgard spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his character, including his look, stating:

“It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates. It’s important that we do something fresh and original for this one. It’s purposely not going toward that weird, greasy look.”

When discussing his approach to Pennywise, Skarsgard elaborates:

“It truly enjoys the shape of the clown Pennywise, and enjoys the game and the hunt. What’s funny to this evil entity might not be funny to everyone else. But he thinks it’s funny.

We can’t wait to see It.
