Opening Night Audience Of Avengers: Endgame May Have Been Exposed To Measles

Imagine this: you’re super excited to see the biggest movie of the year on opening night and then you find out days later that you may have been exposed to measles. Yep, that’s right, measles. Moviegoers that attended an April 25 screening of Avengers: Endgame at an AMC theater in Fullerton may have been exposed to measles by a fellow audience member who was fresh from international travel and unaware of her infection.

If you happen to read this and you were in attendance at AMC Dine-In Fullerton 20 theater (1001 S. Lemon Street) and saw Avengers: Endgame at one of the late opening-night screenings (between 11 PM on April 25 and 4 AM on April 26) are advised to monitor themselves for symptoms through May 16. They are also encouraged to review their vaccination history.

The patient has been identified only as a Placentia woman in her 20s who recently traveled internationally and is now quarantined voluntarily in her home. Doctors estimate that the patient’s window of infectiousness ranges from April 23 to May 1. The advisory from the Orange County Health Care Agency on Thursday is tied to the first confirmed measles case reported this year in the county.

Beyond the packed movie theater, the patient also interacted with others at her workplace (an office building at 5 Hutton Centre Drive in Santa Ana on April 23, 24, and 25) and the emergency department at St. Jude Hospital (101 E. Valencia Mesa Drive in Fullerton on April 27). For more information, call the HCA Health Referral Line at 1 (800)-564-8448. AMC has declined to comment on the matter.
