Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Scores Solid $5.8 Million In Thursday Night Previews

Quentin Tarantino’s love letter to movies and Hollywood in the late 60s is already hitting it big with today’s moviegoers if Thursday night preview numbers are any indication.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood grossed $5.8 million in Thursday night previews from showtimes that began at 4 PM. Prior to this, the biggest preview night for Tarantino was Inglourious Basterds’ midnight shows with $1.3 million back in August 2009. Last night’s gross beats Dunkirk‘s $5.5 million, a film that went on to open to $50.5 Million. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood entered tracking with a $30 million opening, much like Dunkirk, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Hollywood saw a similar opening after these preview numbers.

Response to the film appears positive as of now. ComScore/Screen Engine PostTrak exits are great out of the gate with a solid 4 stars and 55% definite recommend.  It’s also being reported that night shows for Hollywood such as the 7:45 PM at the Pacific Theater in Chatsworth, CA were completely filled while 70MM shows at the Cinerama dome were sold out.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood expands to 3,659 locations today, up from the 3,318 locations that kicked off its Thursday preview launch.
