Nia DaCosta Chosen To Direct Captain Marvel 2

Captain Marvel 2 has found its director & it’s a fresh face that’s already helping revive a horror classic from the 90s. Nia DaCosta, who is helming what has been called the spiritual sequel to Candyman, has been chosen to lead Brie Larson & her crew for the next Captain Marvel installment.

Megan McDonnell, a writer on the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series WandaVision, is writing the script for the sequel, which will once again star Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a fighter pilot turned superhero. DaCosta broke out with her debut feature Little Woods, which starred Tessa Thompson and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2018. Her take on Candyman, which she co-wrote with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld, was initially supposed to debut June 12 but has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic to October 16. The first trailer that hit for Candyman earned high praise & has made everyone look forward to what DaCosta has to offer.

The first Captain Marvel opened in March 2019 and went on to earn $1.1 billion globally and helped lead into Avengers: Endgame. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed the first film & although they aren’t returning, I hear Marvel wants to use them for other Marvel-related projects. The cast also included Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan, and Lashana Lynch, whose onscreen daughter Monica Rambeau will appear in WandaVision (this time as an adult and played by Candyman actor Teyonah Parris).
