It’s one and done for Fox’s sci-fi series, NeXt. The network has decided not to renew the series for a second season.
NeXt, much like the recently canceled Filthy Rich, was intended for a summer run but was pushed to fall when it became clear Fox would have to delay the launch of their fall season due to COVID-19. Next had already been shot so it made it a good candidate for the schedule change but the series just never really caught on with viewers. Next is currently drawing 2.8 million viewers per episode along with a 0.5 in the 18-49 demo. NeXt has aired two of its ten episodes and the plan is for the show to finish out that order
NeXt is a fact-based thriller is about the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence and combines action with an examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand. John Slattery plays a Silicon Valley pioneer, who discovers that one of his own creations – a powerful AI – might spell global catastrophe and teams up with a cybercrime agent, played by The First’s Fernanda Andrade, to fight a villain. The show also stars Michael Mosley, Jason Butler Harner, Eve Harlow, Aaron Moten, Gerardo Celasco, Elizabeth Cappuccino, and Evan Whitten.
