NBC has finally unveiled its schedule for the fall and despite COVID-19 delays, there isn’t much changed on their schedule beyond the addition of one new series. The network seems confident that they’ll be able to get back to shooting early enough to get the fall season rolling, even if its pushed by a weeks.
The approach that NBC is going with for the fall is very similar to the strategy put forth by CBS. They haven’t delayed their shows into the new year or acquired content to air in place of their regular shows like The CW and they’re going forth with more original content to start than Fox. What’s similar to the other networks is that NBC hasn’t made any final decisions on their pilots for the fall season, with the exception of the Law & Order: SVU spin-off, Law & Order: Organized Crime, which will bring back Christopher Meloni to the Law & Order universe after his long run on SVU. The spinoff was given a straight-to-series-order and the network is running with it on an otherwise pretty stable lineup for NBC.
Set for a return later in the season are Good Girls and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and Ellen’s Game of Games, to be joined by several new unscripted series, Jimmy Fallon-hosted musical game show That’s My Jam; True Story hosted by Ed Helms and Randall Park, and game show Small Fortune.
Being held for midseason/summer include three new comedies, Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s straight-to-series Mr. Mayor, starring Ted Danson and Holly Hunter; Kenan, starring Kenan Thompson, which was originally ordered last season; and the straight-to-series Young Rock from showrunner Nahnatchka Khan and producer/star Dwayne Johnson.
