NBC Picks Up Three Pilots Straight To Series Ahead Of Upfront Presentation

The networks are gearing up for their upfront presentations next week and NBC is already announcing pilot pickups for a trio of new dramas.

First up is The Enemy Within, which is a character-driven investigative thriller set in the world of counterintelligence. It focuses on former CIA agent Erica Wolfe, the most notorious traitor in modern history and most hated woman in America, who is brought out of a federal supermax prison by the FBI to help stop some of the most dangerous acts of espionage threatening the United States today. The series stars Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, & Kelli Garner.

On deck next is The Village, and shows despite difference in age, race, culture and lifestyle, the residents of a Manhattan apartment building find that the more their lives intertwine, the more complex and compelling their connections become, thus proving life’s challenges are better faced alongside family, even if it’s the one you make wherever you find it. The series stars Moran Atias, Dominic Chianese, Warren Christie, Frankie Faison, Jerod Haynes, Daren Kagasoff, Michaela McManus, Lorraine Toussaint, & Grace Van Dien.

Announced over the weekend, New Amsterdam is inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America. The series follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin, the institution’s newest medical director, who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map. The series stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, & Tyler Labine

Also announced is the straight-to-series order for The Gilded Age, which will premiere in 2019. From the creators of Downton Abbey, Marian Brook is the wide-eyed young scion of a conservative family in 1880s New York City. He will embark on infiltrating the wealthy neighboring family dominated by ruthless railroad tycoon George Russell, his rakish and available son Larry and his ambitious wife Bertha, whose “new money” is a barrier to acceptance by the Astor and Vanderbilt set. Marian is about to experience a whole new world springing up right outside her front door. The cast for this series has yet to be set.
