Mulan (Trailer 2)

Disney is getting down to business with a second trailer for their live-action remake of Mulan & its emphasis is definitely more on action than that shown in the teaser trailer.

The world did take notice when the first teaser was released during the Women’s World Cup back in July. The teaser logged 175.1 million views in the first 24 hours, with 52 million of those views coming from China.

With this trailer, Disney has to ease the tension created by the headlines that were started by the film’s star, Liu Yifei. The actress made comments on social media by the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. Yifei is Chinese born & age wrote on a blogging site named Weibo that she stands with the Hong Kong police, who since June have been engaged in a crackdown on anti-government demonstrators and journalists in that country. Her comments put Disney in the middle of a global humans rights issue which led to the hashtag #BoycottMulan spiking globally. Hopefully, this won’t derail the film because this looks much different from the previous live-action Disney adaptations, in a good way.

In the new film, when the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father by masquerading as a man. Mulan soon discovers her inner strength & true potential as she embarks on her journey. The film also stars Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, & Jet Li.

Mulan hits screens on March 27, 2020. Check out the new key art below:
