Stephen King’s Gerald’s Game May Be Netflix’s Next Film

While out promoting his next film, Ouija: Origin of Evil, director Mike Flanagan mentioned his years’ long journey to adapt Stephen King’s 1992 novel, Gerald’s Game, to film. He stated that because of Hush‘s success and popularity, Netflix may be producing the film.

Flanagan stated,

“And Netflix, because of how well Hush has done, said, ‘We’re really interested in this, and we’d like to do it the way you want to do it.’ And that eliminated the pressure of having to test-screen the movie and define the demographic that’s going to watch it—all of that stuff that typically comes into the conversation when you’re trying to figure out how to market a film for a wide theatrical release. It just cleared the table, so that I can make the movie I want to make. I’m hoping very much that we can get that movie up on its feet soon.”

Gerald’s Game is about when things take a turn for the worse for a couple who while on a weekend getaway. The entire book takes places in a single room with the female character handcuffed to a bed for its entirety. It’d be interesting to see if it becomes a feature length film or a short.
