Michael B. Jordan To Make Directorial Debut With Creed III

MGM has made it official! Michael B. Jordan is set to direct the third Creed installment which has been officially dated for Thanksgiving, 2022. This will be Jordan’s directorial debut.

This news was initially spoiled by his onscreen leading lady Tessa Thompson as a toss-away in an online interview but this has been in the cards for a while now. Irwin Winkler, the producer of the original Rocky films and the Creed spinoffs, revealed that Jordan was going to be the director of the third film in another interview as well. Michael De Luca, MGM’s Film Group Chairman, and Pamela Abdy, MGM’s Film Group President, had this to say about Jordan directing the third installment:

“Michael’s vision for Creed III is incredibly exciting and will undoubtedly be an important contribution to the cannon of this storied franchise. We are thrilled to bring his directorial debut, and share this next chapter in the Creed story, to theaters next year.”

Creed III will be written by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin, based on an outline by Ryan Coogler. Aside from Thompson, Phylicia Rashad is also back but it’s currently unknown whether or not Sylvester Stallone will bring Rocky Balboa back into the ring. The Creed series of films have earned nearly $400 million at the global box office to date & Jordan’s ambition and continued rising star power should be a huge asset for the third film.

Creed III hits screens on November 23, 2022.
