Marvel took to the D23 Expo over the weekend to announce three new series coming to Disney+: She-Hulk, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel.
She-Hulk — AKA attorney Jennifer Walters, cousin to Bruce Banner, whose blood transfusion was responsible for her powers — first appeared in 1980s “The Savage She-Hulk No. 1”, and was the last major Marvel character co-created by Stan Lee.
Moon Knight — who showed up as a good guy in 1975’s “Werewolf by Night” No. 32 — is the vigilante alter ego of mercenary Marc Spector. Spector also has a couple of other alter egos (millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley) that may or may not be separate, alternate personalities, and the same may be true of Khonshu, the Egyptian deity who is either guiding Spector through his costumed adventures or a figment of Spector’s imagination.
Ms. Marvel will be based on the popular Kamala Khan version. The “Ms. Marvel” name has a very long history in Marvel comics. Originally it was the moniker for Carol Danvers, now better known as Captain Marvel. Kamala Khan, the current Ms. Marvel, is a Muslim-American teenager from Jersey City who gains shapeshifting and healing abilities. The character was introduced in 2013 by writer G. Willow Wilson. British writer Bisha K. Ali has been hired to write and act as showrunner. Ali is a comedian who is currently a staff writer on Hulu’s remake of Four Weddings and a Funeral.
These three new Marvel additions to Disney+ join the already announced Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, Hawkeye and What If…?
