Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman Starts Filming in August

Martin’s Scorsese’s The Irishman is set to start filming in August. It will be the director’s first collaboration with streaming powerhouse Netflix and his ninth film with Robert De Niro.

The gangster movie was acquired by Netflix earlier this year and will tell the story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran played by De Niro. Sheeran was a mob hitman who may have been involved in the death of Jimmy Hoffa. Based on Charles Brandt’s 2003 book I Heard You Paint Houses, the film will cover Sheeran’s careers as a hitman leading up to Hoffa. In certain early scenes of the film, you can expect a younger De Niro thanks to the visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic. Al Pacino, Bobby Cannavale, and Harvey Keitel are also attached to the project.

Fans can expect a 2019 release date from Netflix with a limited Oscar-qualifying release.
