Luke Cage Starts Filming Season 2

Luke Cage has started filming today in New York City for its second season. On Location Vacations has confirmed that filming has started, but no word on which cast members are shooting today with the exception of lead star Mike Coulter and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. It is easy to expect that set photos will leak this week.

In a previous interview, Coulter stated that filming will run from June 2017 to March 2018 but no announcement has been made on plot direction or whether there are any cast additions, though there has been speculation that two new characters may join based on leaked descriptions:

Byron: 30 – 45, 6’0 or taller, Jamaican, but open to Black Caribbean or African Descent. The smartest man any room, the most effortlessly powerful man in any situation. A natural leader, brimming with resentment but focused on justice. Physically fit and wildly intelligent. Speaks with a native accent from Jamaica / Caribbean / Africa, etc.* SERIES REGULAR

Tamara mid-20’s – early 30’s, African American, female, earthy. A brilliant, confident business owner who prides herself on her independence. As much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her.* ACTORS MUST BE STRONG SINGERS. SERIES REGULAR

It does seem though that the series will pick up from the events of The Defenders, which will premiere on August 18th.

When we last saw Cage, he was being arrested after being framed for murdering a police officer and the crime lord known as Copperhead. But his friend at the barbershop happened to stumble upon the evidence that would exonerate him—not to mention Cage’s girlfriend Claire Temple has a certain skilled lawyer she can call on to help out.

Alfie Woodard and Theo Rossi are expected to reprise their antagonistic roles in season 2, along with Cage’s evil brother Diamondback who is set to undergo the same procedure that gave the protagonist unbreakable skin and super strength.

You can expect season 2 to premiere sometime in 2018.
