The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s latest adaptation of Little Women is here as the writer/director tries to breathe new life into a classic tale.
Gerwig is making it a Lady Bird reunion with Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet on board for the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s 19th-century novel about four young women coming of age in Civil War-era U.S. The story follows sisters Jo (Ronan), Meg (Emma Watson), Amy (Florence Pugh) & Beth March (Eliza Scanlen) as well as their mother Marmee (Laura Dern), their Aunt March (Meryl Streep) and the boy next door (Chalamet). The film also starsĀ Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper & James Norton.
Little Women was first adapted for the screen in 1933 with Katharine Hepburn taking on the role of Jo March, now played by Ronan. In 1994, Winona Ryder took on the role in yet another adaptation of the novel.
Little Women is set for a Christmas release which makes it prime for a potential Oscar season push. Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig’s last effort, was nominated for Best Picture and earned her a Best Director and Screenplay nomination along with a Best Actress nomination for Ronan.
