Julie Andrews Approves Emily Blunt’s Upcoming Portrayal in Mary Poppins Returns

Emily Blunt is set to reprise the role of Mary Poppins in Disney’s upcoming sequel, Mary Poppins Returns and she just received the best stamp of approval from the iconic Julie Andrews. Poppins is a role best embodied by Andrews in her 1964 portrayal and is endeared in the hearts of fans.

While visiting in the Hamptons, director Rob Marshall ran into Andrews and confirmed her delight at Blunt portraying her iconic role. He elaborated,

“It’s top secret, but Emily Blunt’s playing Mary Poppins.’ And she went, ‘Oh, wonderful!”

When Marshall revealed Andrew’s excitement, she explained to Entertainment Weekly that she “felt like she wanted to cry. It was lovely to get her stamp of approval.”

Mary Poppins Returns will be set 20 years after the 1964 film and is based on P.L. Traver’s seven novels following the titular character. It will also star Hamilton phenom, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Streep.

Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters December 25, 2018.
