Jordan Peele’s Candyman Confirmed & Set For 2020 Release Date

MGM is officially partnering with Monkeypaw Productions’ Jordan Peele & Win Rosenfeld to produce a reboot of Candyman, the 1992 horror classic adapted from Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden.”

Being described as more of a “spiritual sequel” to the original, Nia DaCosta will direct from a screenplay by Peele & Rosenfeld. The film will return to the neighborhood where the legend began: The now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood. Tony Todd originated the role of Candyman but no word on if he’ll be returning as the urban legend summoned to kill when his name is said five times by a person facing a mirror.

Cameras are set to role this spring & Universal Pictures will release the film on June 12, 2020.
