As most of my anticipated films of 2020 have been moved to next year, my most anticipated horror film of the year has yet to receive its fate regarding the release date. However, John Carpenter has provided an update on the film. In an interview with IndieWire, Carpenter revealed post-production on Halloween Kills is almost fully completed, his composing work is done and teased the kill count in the sequel is nothing he’s seen before.
“The cut is done,” Carpenter said. “They’ll mix it in New York in the next week or so. Then it will be in the can. My work is all done. The movie is something else. It’s fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred, big time. It’s huge. I’ve never seen anything like this: the kill count!”
Despite the film’s post-production nearing an end, producer Jason Blum recently explained in an interview that the studio is not sure if people will venture out to theatres in October due to the ongoing global health crisis so are currently holding back on the marketing.
“The reason [a trailer] hasn’t come out yet is because we don’t know what the world is going to look like in October. Right now we’re still planning on releasing the movie in October but if there’s no way to release it [theatrically], then we’re not sure. So we’re not going to release the trailer until we really are very sure when people are going to get to see the movie. So that’s the holdup. But we have a great trailer and a great movie and I can’t wait for everybody to see it.”
Halloween Kills is directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride and sees Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) Judy Greer (Karen), Andi Matichak (Allyson), Jibrail Nantambu (Julian), Kyle Richards (Lindsey Wallace), Nancy Stephens (Nurse Marion), Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett) and Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney (The Shape) all reprising their roles, while new additions include Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle and Robert Longstreet as Lonnie Elam.
Halloween Kills is set for release on October 16th 2020, with Halloween Ends following in October 15th 2021.
