Jennifer Lawrence to Play Zelda Fitzgerald in Ron Howard Film

Jennifer Lawrence will play 1920’s socialite Zelda Fitzgerald in an upcoming biopic possibly directed by Ron Howard. Zelda, based off of the bestselling 1983 Nancy Milford biography, will depict the life and turmoil of the Jazz Age icon, who was a writer in her own right and wife to F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby). Howard is in talks to direct the film., while Zelda will be written by Emma Frost (ShamelessThe White Queen).

The film will tell the tragic story of Fitzgerald who was a tormented gifted woman undone by “the clash between her husband’s career and her own talent.” She was often a muse and competitor to her husband while trying to achieve her own artistic endeavors. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1930, Zelda moved between different clinics until her violent death in a hospital fire in 1943.
