Jason Reitman Gave His Father Ivan Reitman A Cameo In Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now in theatres, and the film has been a box-office darling for Sony and is one of the commercial hits of the fall season. Over the weekend, director Jason Reitman took to his Instagram account to reveal that his favorite Easter egg reference to Ghostbusters past is one that viewers probably wouldn’t have caught if he didn’t point it out to them: he gave his father Ivan Reitman, director of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II  a cameo in the film!

As the younger Reitman describes it,

“For an insert shot of Venkman firing up his proton pack, we brought in the hands of another Ghostbuster”, his dad Ivan.

Written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace as

a family with single mom Callie and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe, who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma only to discover that there’s something strange in the neighborhood. Unexplained quakes shake the town. There’s an old mine nearby that bears the name of Ivo Shandor, who built the Manhattan high-rise in the 1984 film that channeled the forces of evil.
