It was first reported in 2015 that Martin Scorsese’s was set to adapt Erik Larson’s The Devil In The White Citywith Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of serial killer H.H. Holmes. After being shelved, it looks like the project is back on track as an announcement came from Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, Craig Erwich, at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour Monday morning that the a series based on the book is in the works with DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese set to be executive producers, along with Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, Emma Koskoff, and Jennifer Davisson. Paramount Television will also be producing and Billy Ray will be penning the script.
Leonardo DiCaprio first acquired the rights almost 10 years ago, with plans to adapt the story into a film in which he would star as the main character, Holmes. The novel is based off a true story of two men at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, one an architect and one a doctor who is said to have become the first serial killer in America.
No word on any casting for the upcoming series.
